A project in SDS MikroTik Toolkit is not just a configuration name. It's a link between the client, object, router model, RouterOS version, script, backup files, and warranty history.

What to fill in mandatorily

  • Client — a counterparty or organization for which the configuration is made.
  • Object — a specific address or CRM object where the router is located.
  • Model — hAP ax², RB5009, CCR, cAP ax, etc. This is important for ports, Wi-Fi, and performance.
  • RouterOS — ROS 7 for WireGuard and modern Wi-Fi, ROS 6 only for legacy devices.
  • Notes — connection diagram, provider, client specifics, access restrictions.

Why RouterOS version is important

RouterOS 6 and RouterOS 7 have different syntax for some functions. WireGuard is available in RouterOS 7, and the Wi-Fi stack in new devices differs from the old wireless/CAPsMAN.

What to write in notes

Provider: DHCP on ether1
LAN: 192.168.88.0/24
VLAN 20: guest Wi-Fi
VLAN 30: CCTV
Remote access: WireGuard only
Backup before work: before-sds-config.backup
Engineer: SDS / date of work

Typical errors

  • creating a project without an object, and then not finding it in the warranty history;
  • selecting ROS 7 for an old device with ROS 6 and getting an incorrect Wi-Fi/VPN scenario;
  • not specifying the model and not manually checking the number of ports;
  • saving only a local draft in the browser and not clicking "Save".
Before exporting the configuration, the project must be linked to a CRM object. Otherwise, the backup, script, and warranty will end up in different places.
