Mesh should not be the first answer to any Wi-Fi problem. If it's possible to run a cable to the AP, a wired backhaul is almost always more stable than a wireless mesh.

Recommended SDS Approach

  1. Plan APs by coverage zones.
  2. Where possible, connect APs with a cable.
  3. Manage SSIDs centrally via CAPsMAN or a controller.
  4. Place Guest SSID in a VLAN.
  5. After installation, test roaming with real phones/laptops.

When Mesh is Justified

  • it's impossible to run a cable;
  • temporary object or exhibition;
  • low load and no critical services;
  • the client accepts speed/stability limitations.

Common Mistakes

  • calling mesh a solution for poor AP placement;
  • placing APs too close and at maximum power;
  • not separating 2.4 GHz channels;
  • not testing roaming during a call, video, or movement around the object.
